SPAWAR FRD100 and SSC-PAC were faced with the task of creating Installation Requirements Drawings (IRDs) for the NAVSSI program. These drawings are critically important to the fleet because they describe how to mount and connect shipboard systems; unfortunately, no one at FRD or SSC-PAC had the technical knowledge of how to create IRDs. CSA was challenged to learn the IRD process and expertly generate the necessary documents for government review.
CSA leveraged their drafting and Mechanical Engineering technical experts to solve this issue. Although IRD standards were new, CSA has significant past experience in 2-D and 3-D design, drafting, and modeling in all major Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs. The CSA engineering team quickly learned the standards and became the subject matter expert in this field.
CSA produced one of the lengthiest IRDs ever submitted to SPAWAR review. Following the acceptance of this IRD by SPAWAR, CSA has gone on to produce four more IRDs and one revision of the original IRD, all of which are in various stages of review and acceptance. CSA is now seen as one of the industry experts in IRD generation and review.
